Portrait of Britain 2024 shortlist Announcement

The British Journal of Photography and how I love this this image

‘Mary and Terry, sharing a kiss’ has been shortlisted for the Portrait of Britain by the British Journal of Photography.

This image was made to mark Mary and Terry’s ten years of marriage together, taken back in February this year, the photographs were a gift from Terry (a keen photographer himself) for his wife. Mary told me she would like to display the photographs in Terry’s whiskey cabinet so that he can look at them everyday, as a reminder of their love. It was such a delight to witness and capture their story, I can’t express how much I love this image and how pleased I am to see this moment recognised in such a prestigious publication.

Portrait of Britain is an award capturing the many faces of modern Britain, a celebration of identity and an opportunity to rejoice in the diversity of a changing nation.

Shortlisted portraits will be published in the dedicated Portrait of Britain book (volume 7) printed in collaboration with Bluecoat Press and sponsored by JCDecaux.

Many, many thanks to Mary and Terry for trusting me to capture their special occasion.
